How we check bus companies
Every company on bus.broker comes from the official FMCSA company census — the U.S. register of motor carriers. Last refresh: Oct 25, 2026 — 42,233 passenger carriers with 4,468,516 reported vehicles.
| Section | Included when the carrier reports… |
|---|---|
| Charter bus (17,137) | At least one motorcoach or bus with 16+ seats |
| School bus (9,364) | At least one school bus |
| Limo & minibus (22,842) | At least one limousine or 9–15 passenger van |
A company can appear in more than one section. We include only carriers with active USDOT status that say they carry passengers. We leave out public school districts, cities, counties and churches that only transport their own people, and carriers that report only small vans or cars.
What each profile shows
- USDOT number — the carrier's federal safety ID.
- MC number and status — interstate passenger authority. Needed to carry paying passengers across state lines. 8,426 carriers have it active.
- Safety rating — Satisfactory, Conditional or Unsatisfactory, if FMCSA has done a compliance review. Most carriers are unrated, which is normal.
- Fleet and drivers — as reported by the carrier on its MCS-150 form. These are self-reported.
Ordering
Lists are ordered by how much we could verify: active passenger authority, interstate operation, fleet size, contact details and a Satisfactory rating. It is not a quality rating. Paid placements never change the order and are always labeled.
Always double-check
Records change daily. Before you book, look up the USDOT number on FMCSA SAFER, ask for a certificate of insurance and get the quote in writing.
