Limo & minibus companies in the United States
22,683 active passenger carriers in the U.S. report limousines, minibuses or 9–15 passenger vans to the FMCSA. They cover weddings, proms, airport transfers, night-out party buses and small group trips.
Before you hire one
- Check the USDOT number on FMCSA SAFER and your state or city limo permit.
- For stretch limos and party buses, ask when the vehicle was last inspected and how many seat belts it has.
- Ask what is included: gratuity, fuel, wait time, decorations and cleaning fees.
- Get the pickup times, route and total price in a written contract.
Questions
How many people fit in a limo or party bus?
A sedan or SUV limo usually fits 4–6, a stretch limo 8–14, a minibus 15–30 and a party bus 20–40 passengers. Ask for the seated capacity of the exact vehicle.
Do limo companies need a USDOT number?
Carriers that carry passengers for hire across state lines, or run vehicles for 9+ passengers in interstate trips, need a USDOT number and FMCSA authority. Purely local limo services are licensed by the state or city.
Is the tip included in a limo price?
Often not. Many companies add a 15–20% driver gratuity on top of the hourly rate. Ask before you book.
