Common Tipping Norms
There is no fixed rule. Common practice in the U.S. is about 10–20% of the charter price, or a set amount per driver per day on multi-day trips. Limo and party bus drivers are often tipped 15–20%.
Is It Already Included?
Many quotes add a gratuity line automatically. Read your quote or contract — if a tip is already included, any extra is up to you.
How to Tip
- Collect it from the group in advance so it’s ready at the end.
- Hand it to the driver directly, in cash or as the company allows.
- On multi-day trips, consider tipping each day or at the end.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do you tip a school bus driver on a field trip?
It depends on your school’s rules. Many schools don’t allow cash tips; a thank-you card from the class is common.
Should each passenger tip separately?
For groups it is easier for the organizer to collect one tip and hand it over at the end of the trip.
