What the result shows

Each match links to the company profile with its fleet, interstate authority, FMCSA safety rating and roadside-inspection out-of-service rates from the last 24 months. We only list active passenger carriers with buses, school buses, limousines or 9–15 seat vans. Read how to check a bus company.

Frequently asked questions

What is a USDOT number?

The federal ID the FMCSA gives every commercial bus and truck company. It tracks the company’s inspections, crashes and safety rating, and it must be shown on both sides of the bus.

What if the company isn’t found?

It may be inactive, registered under another name, or only licensed locally (some limo services). Ask the company for its USDOT number and search again, or check FMCSA SAFER.

What should I look for?

For trips across state lines: active passenger authority (MC). Then the safety rating (avoid Unsatisfactory) and the out-of-service rate compared with the average.
